Yayoi Kusama for The Broad

The projectCreating a best-selling collection of Yayoi Kusama keepsakes in collaboration with LA Institution The Broad was a studio highlight, and a project not to be forgotten. The luxury collection was designed to sit alongside one of the most talked about exhibitions of 2017, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrors.   On view on the first floor was Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away, a mirror-lined chamber housing a dazzling and seemingly endless LED light display. This experiential artwork has extremely limited capacity, accommodating one visitor at a time for about a minute - to say this room changed how we view art is an understatement.  The collection-Leather Clutch in gift box-Silk Scarf in gift box-Individual Pumpkin Pins in collectors box  The museumThe Broad is a contemporary art museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, the museum offers free general admission. The Broad is home to more than 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide, and presents an active program of rotating temporary exhibitions and innovative audience engagement. The 120,000-square-foot building features two floors of gallery space and is the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library, which has actively loaned collection works to museums around the world since 1984. Since opening in September 2015, The Broad has welcomed more than 1.7 million visitors.

Takashi Murakami for MCA Chicago

The projectThird Drawer Down Studio was thrilled to collaborate with MCA Chicago on an exclusive merchandise collection to sit alongside Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg, June 6 - September 24, 2017. Exploring a love for developing luxury items, the studio adapted the large-scale work Dragon In Clouds to a stunning cashmere/modal scarf.  The exhibition, titled Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg, shows how Murakami’s art is rooted in traditions of Japanese painting and folklore, and highlights the artist’s careful attention to craft and materials. It also showcases the artist’s astute eye for the contemporary influences of globalization, media culture, the continued threats of nuclear power. The collection-Cashmere/Modal Scarf in gift box-Pocket Mirror in leather embossed pouch The galleryLocated one block east of the historic Water Tower, the MCA champions the provocative side of contemporary art and culture. Our innovative exhibitions, performances, and programs will inspire you. Founded in 1967 as a Kunsthalle, or noncollecting art gallery, the MCA is now one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to art since 1945. Since our inception, it has been our mission to exhibit new and experimental work artists in all media, paired with ambitious education programs. In 1974, the MCA expanded our mission to include collecting and preserving contemporary art for future generations with the inauguration of a permanent collection that has grown to include more than 2,000 works. After 29 years in a storefront on Ontario Street, the museum moved to our current location in 1996, giving our collection, exhibitions, and programming room to evolve to meet the needs of 21st-century art and audiences.
